I need help with Lighting, pls

Postby Mari-Anne » Wed Nov 11, 2009 12:34 pm

I have noticed that when I use the Atmosphere Editor > Light tab, the Light Color is dimmed out so that I cannot edit it. By default, this color always appears very dark in my Vue 8 Infinite application (it was the same in my 7.5 version as well).

I've been doing some of Vladimir's Geek at Play Lighting tutorials (e.g. Nos. 5 & 7) and notice that the Light Color in the tutorial is much, much lighter than what I am able to achieve, plus the option is not dimmed out on Vladimir's screen.

I've checked to make sure that all my settings are the same as Vladimir's. The only way I can get the Light Color option to work is to change from Spectral Model to Volumetric Model. Once I do that, the Light Color option becomes active. Needless to say, I don't want the Volumetric Model.

Does anyone know what's going on? I am sure it's just something very simple I need to check or uncheck somewhere.

No - the option is not active. As you can see, it's dimmed out. Neither right-clicking nor double-clicking works.

Thanks Mannie - I hope Vladimir can help too. I heard from Peggy Walters who indicated the Vue manual says this option is not available with the Spectral Model - but yet, Vladimir's video tutorial shows his option as being available. I am wondering if maybe Vladimir is using XStream rather than Infinite. Maybe in Vue XStream, the Color option is not dimmed out.

Actually, you don't need to try the tutorials if you don't have the time - check any Atmosphere preset that uses the Spectral model in Vue Infinite and see if your Light tab > Light Color option is working.

Hi Mari-Anne,

Today I tested this "Tasmania" atmo in Vue 7 and in Vue8 (both Infinite). I can't change the light color, too.

OK, Mannie & tuwde - I guess it's up to Vladimir to divulge how his screen shows this option as being available in his version of Vue. Thanks for giving it a try!

Hi Drugar,

It would appear that this option is not supposed to be available - according to the manual. Plus the fact that others are having the same problem as I am having, would support that point. However, the question then becomes - perhaps the Light Color option is available in the Spectral model with other versions of Vue, other than Vue Infinite. What version are you using?

OK, then I think it's a fact. With XStream you can change, with Infinite and other versions not.

I dont like it, because I tought the only different is with using other 3D applications. But I don't pay US$645 only for this "little" thing...

OK, Drugar - like tuwde says, it must be an XStream "thing." Thanks for clarifying.
