Spiral Stair tut?

Spiral Stair tut?

Postby arnoldt » Sat Nov 22, 2008 10:15 pm

Just watched the stair tutorial, and that was amazing. But I am trying to make a spiral staircase. Any idea on an easy way to do this?? I am basically trying to get it to go around a cylinder.

Ok. This sounds like a challenge? Are you challenging me? Are you putting me to the test? :D
Let me play around with some ideas and see what I can come up with.

After doing a google search, there are many types of circular or spiral staircases. Do me a favor; do a google search on "spiral stairs" and send me an image of what you want. This will help me narrow down the many different styles so I can model it.

Here is a pic of the stairs. As long as the center bar can be resized (thicker).

Arnoldt, I can show you a very easy way to do this with Sketchup, but not sure if you use that app. I assume you are looking for a hexagon solution right?

I have the free version of sketchup. So if I can export it in sketchup and import it into hexagon and attach it to my model than I i guess that would be ok. No i do not have 3ds max($$).

Arnoldt, if this helps at all, here is a .vob of a staircase i made quick in Sketchup. I made the centre shaft thicker as you required.
Vovka feel free to post it on freebies if you want.

Have you ever tried the scatter and replicator tool in Vue?
Have a look at this:)
Ok its not as elaboratet as the models above but.....with a little calculation? you can make something nice.
Why not try to make a cilinder, make a boolean operation with a other cilinder and apply the scatter and replicator tool to it????
