hardware question

Postby kevinrad » Thu Nov 12, 2009 7:33 pm

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. Sorry if I'm not posting under the right topic. I'm about to build a new system and had couple of questions regarding the hardwares.
Does anyone know how much faster vue renders scenes with an i7-920 versus i7-950 CPU (assuming there is no overcloking involved). I'm looking for actual numbers (secs) for the same render.
My second question is about graphic cards. If I install a card with 1700 mb of ram, does it mean that my system will have less free memory available?? (my system will have 12 gb of ram but still...)

below is some parts of the system I'm building. I'd appreciate any help/suggestions. thanks!!

Case: Raidmax Tornado ATX-238WY
PSU: Antec TruePower Quattro 850W
CPU: Intel Core i7 920, 2.66GHz
CPU FAN: ASUS Triton 81
BOARD: ASUS Intel X58 P6T
RAM: 12GB (6 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 MHz--Corsair
VIDEO: Geforce GTX 275 1792MB

I can't give you any numbers, but I would be very happy with a system like this.
Also to compare vue renders isn't this easy. The different will have other aspects between size, lighting, atmosphere and amount of objects even with the same scene.

The only question i can answer you is about the graphic card. The 1792MB is internal memory on the graphic card and doesn't touch your system memory. Anyway, a graphic card is for display only and won't give you faster render direct. But it can save you system recourses which can affect faster renders because of this.
Have a fantastic day!

you looking on price different i920 = $280 i950 =$590 with increase in speed by .4Ghz (2.66 vs 3.06)
it is not very big increase at all for price you paying. You can still buy i920 and for extra $290 buy one more computer with quad core and use as render node. with mutch higher increase in render speed.

Thanks all for your help!
Does anybody here have more than 12 gb of memory on their system?? If you do, then what type of MB you have? Does Vue even recognizes more than 12 gb of memory??
Thanks again!

Nice!! I'm assuming you have 4 gb chips right?! They're way too expensive for me right now...
